76th Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path on Sunday showcased several unprecedented events

Historic Salute by a Woman Officer

Captain Dimple Singh Bhati made history as the first female Army officer to salute President Droupadi Murmu from a 12-foot ladder mounted on a moving motorcycle. Demonstrating exceptional balance and grace, Bhati’s salute epitomized the valor and precision of the Indian Army’s Corps of Signals, famously known as “The Dare Devils.”

Inaugural Tri-Services Tableau

For the first time, a tri-services tableau graced Kartavya Path, symbolizing the enhanced “jointness” among India’s armed forces. The display portrayed a coordinated battlefield scenario across land, sea, and air, featuring indigenous assets like the Arjun battle tank, Tejas fighter aircraft, and advanced light helicopter. The tableau’s theme was “Shashakt aur Surakshit Bharat” (Strong and Secure India).

Debut of Indigenous Missile and Surveillance System

The parade witnessed the debut of the Pralay missile, India’s indigenous short-range quasi-ballistic missile designed for the Army and Air Force, marking its entry as the nation’s first ballistic missile intended for conventional strikes. Additionally, the SANJAY battlefield surveillance system was showcased for the first time. This automated system integrates inputs from various ground and aerial sensors to provide comprehensive battlefield awareness.

Indonesian Contingent’s Maiden Participation

A 352-member marching and band contingent from Indonesia participated in the parade, marking the first instance of an Indonesian military contingent and band performing abroad during a Republic Day celebration.

Expansive Cultural Performance

Over 5,000 folk and tribal artists presented 45 dance forms from across India, covering the entire stretch of Kartavya Path for the first time. This arrangement ensured that all attendees enjoyed an immersive viewing experience. The 11-minute performance, titled “Jayati Jaya Mamah Bharatam,” was curated by the Sangeet Natak Akademi as a tribute to the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, celebrating the nation’s rich and diverse cultural heritage.
